Hand painted ornaments in 3 easy steps! Your kit includes painting supplies and pre-painted ornaments. You'll want to grab a few cups of water for dirty brushes and paper towels before you get started.
-
You'll also want to set up a few cups with the wooden dowels included in the kit so there is a safe place for the ornaments to dry. I recommend limiting it to 4 ornaments per cup to prevent them from touching.
-
Your kit includes pre-painted ornaments that utilize a base color from a carefully crafted color palette. Your kit also includes a pre-mixed color palette plus some neutrals, black, white, gold and silver paint.
-
Your kit also includes color cards that show you the complimentary and triadic color combos to help guide your artistic decisions.
-
The complimentary combos are good for simple designs and the triadic combos are good for designs that are more complicated.
-
The science behind color selection will help your ornaments pop!
-
Complimentary pair on top of a neutral base.
-
You can practice your designs on scratch paper first.... and you can always paint over anything you don't like! Make sure you allow adequate time to dry between layers.
-
Triadic combo with 1 color as the base & the other 2 colors used for details.
-
Varnish is not required, but it will help preserve your masterpiece and help bring out the beautiful details. The kit includes both a glossy and matte varnish. Please note that the matte varnish will look glossy while it is wet.
-
Make sure to use a thin coat, there will always be a chance to cover the spots you miss after the first coat dries
-
The varnish becomes dry to the touch within an hour, but will remain tacky for a few hours. I recommend allowing 4 hours to dry before you hang your ornament. Touch up any spots you missed as needed.
-
After your varnish is dry to the touch you can place the ornament cap on. The ornament caps come silver, but you are free to paint them whatever color you want. You also get to further customize your ornament by choosing what color ribbon you want to hang it with!

Simple Tree Pattern

Simple Tree Pattern
-
Start by tracing painting a simple triangle.
-
Add a tree trunk at the bottom of the triangle.
-
Repeat the process. Alternate colors or go in with a paint marker to get your desired pattern.
Simple Wreath
-
Simple Wreath
-
Start by tracing a circle on your ornament. I like to use an empty jar and a paint pen to get a loose outline.
-
The circle does not need to be perfect! We can cover up the imperfections with paint later on.
-
Using a fine tip brush, cover your outline with a thin layer of paint color you want your wreath to be. After this layer dries you may want to add another layer to get full coverage.
-
Once you are satisfied with your wreath outline, start placing leaves around the circle. You can strategically place leaves on "flyaways" that may might have occurred while tracing your circle.
-
I like to outline the basic shape of the leaf before completely filling it in. Start with a thin layer of paint and add more layers to get the coverage you want.
-
Repeat your leaf design. For a more elegant look alternate leaf placement on either side of the circle, giving even spacing between each addition.
-
Once you are satisfied with your leaves, it is time to decorate the wreath. In this design I am decorating it with berries. Load the tip of your brush up with a paint color of your chosing.
-
Press down with just the tip of your paint brush. Make three even dots around the base of the leaf stem. Repeat around the wreath until you are happy with your design!
Festive Pattern
-
Festive Pattern
-
Start by selecting 3 simple shapes to build your pattern with.
-
Arrange the shape # 1 in the form of a tee, make sure the shapes are equally sized
-
Place shape #2 equidistant between the shape #1 placements.
-
Once shape #1 and shape #2 are evenly placed, decide what space needs to be filled in by shape #3.
-
Place shape #3 around your design. Be sure that the design is balanced.
-
Practice painting in your design with a color combination of your choosing.
-
When you are happy with your pattern and color choices, start applying it to your ornament.
-
Repeat your pattern building steps, either with a paint marker or a thin paint brush.
-
Trace your pattern with equal spacing around your ornament.
-
Paint in your pattern. You can keep the same color for each shape throughout the ornament - or mix it up! Always apply the paint in thin layers and apply as many layers as needed to achieve your desired coverage.
Snowflake
-
Snowflake
-
Start by tracing a tee with two lines on each axis. Leave a small place in the center where the lines don't touch.
-
Use a straight edge to cut diagonally through the tee.
-
Use the diagonally placed straight edge to form a "V" with the axis lines.
-
Finish forming the Vs around all the axis lines.
-
Form a diamond by tracing a symmetric V on top of the original Vs.
-
Close all the Vs to complete the snowflake design. Repeat this process until you are comfortable enough to move onto painting it on your ornament.
-
Time to trace the design on your ornament. Try using tape to set up your original tee outline.
-
Trace your tee with a marker. Gently remove the tape when you have traced what you needed. Some of the base paint might come up when you pull the tape off. This can be touched up later.
-
Repeat the steps you used to make the diamonds on paper to trace the diamonds on your ornament.
-
Finish tracing the pattern with marker. It is okay if it isn't perfect, we can touch up with paint later!
-
Go over your snowflake outline with a thin layer of paint.
-
Your finished outline might not look clean, but that is okay. Trust the process!
-
Fill in your design with a thin layer of paint. Add as many layers as necessary to get the coverage you want.
-
Once you are satisfied with how you've filled in your snowflake, touch up the edges with the base color. Take this opportunity to also touch up any areas where paint was lifted by the tape. Let your design dry fully before varnishing!
